Yesterday Dave and I revisted the Dark Ages, we used an amended version of the Dark Age rules in Neil Thomas's, One Hour Wargames book. I also chose a scenario from the book, the British started with two units on a hill, with another four coming on table in turn two, the Saxons would have all six units from the start. The objective was to be in sole possession of the hill by turn fifteen, the Saxons started with a full on assault of the hill, with further units skirting the side to engage the relief force when they entered the table. The rules, even with the AMW Yahoo Group mods lived up to the title, Baldinus and British securing victory in around 45 minutes, we decided to have lunch and then play another game.
We chose an hold the crossroads scenario, this time the Saxon steamroller won through, decimating the British forces. So a win for Baldinus and a win for Penda Fudd. A great time was had, which shows you don't need complex rules.
Jury is still out on wether I continue blogging, maybe when I get a new PC I will feel better, tablets are not really up to the job.

Great looking game. I, for one, hope you continue with your blog...I would miss all the superb figs and wonderful battles.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the encouragement Gordon.
DeleteExcellent photos of two very enjoyable games! Great day all round. Also diagnosed your Blogger issues correctly I think! Keep up the blogging, it brings pleasure to untold numbers of folks!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed them too. Not sure about the Blogger issues with the IPad, I did this on the Kindle!
DeleteTwo games, I am having withdrawal symptoms, nothing since last week. Great figures.
ReplyDeleteThank you George. It was actually three games for me, after I done family duties I played a game with the figures, using Kings of War Historical :~) these were just as quick and bloody, but then my dice scores were on fire, great for firing and hand to hand, but not for testing nerve (morale) :~)
DeleteNice game/s....interested by your tablet/pc comment. I converted entirely to iPad about a year ago. It took a while to get the process working but now I do all my blogging on iPad and find it much easier ?
ReplyDeleteThanks Matt. Yes the IPad, has Dave can verify, when I clicked to up load images the IPad froze. I clicked the home button went back and then it worked, can't be doing that with every image, time is precious.
ReplyDeleteI am no expert but The way it works for me, is I take photos on iPad, then have to upload photos to my google cloud, this takes a couple of seconds. I then open a new post in blogger and insert the photos, this can be done fairly quickly say 1 minute, but I have notivpced this is slightly slower than it used to be as my iPad gets slightly older. Then I use a blogger app which I edit/write the blog in as this allows me to edit the photo sizes and text much easier than in blogger, they talk to each other so is fairly seemless. Once drafted I then preview back in blogger and post. It sounds complex and there may be a better way but the whole process for a short post/ update probabaly only takes 2 minutes from taking the photo. I had always hoped I could take The photo and upload direct but that wouldn't work so well which is where the cloud storage and blogger app can in.
DeleteUntil I get a laptop, I will live with using the Kindle and the old PC, which considering XP is no longer supported by any browsers works better than the Kindle, it's just a tad slow, but OK for typing up the text.
DeleteShould read IPad not Kindle.
DeleteGreat to see you using the One Hour Wargames rules. I find myself favouring simpler rulesets as I get older. Lovely looking figures too.
ReplyDeleteThank you JS, we are exactly the same. Don't understand why folk want to complicate a game of toy soldiers.
DeleteExcellent looking game Phil!
ReplyDeleteChristopher
